Levels of MODSIM 1. Animation 2. Animation with user input 3. Animated, simulation construction 4. Simulation construction with no animation

Past Lesson – Vectors  Conceptual reinforcement in different classes  Use of same simulation software in both courses  Tied physical phenomena and concepts to mathematical concepts and models

Current Lesson – Circular Motion  Provides students the opportunity to conduct an experiment which traditionally was filled with experiment error due to the effect of gravity and friction

Future Lesson – Energy Loss in a System  Conceptual reinforcement in different classes  Opportunity to prove theoretical statements  Connect real world phenomena to theoretical math

Goals/Benefits of Implementing MODSIM in High School Education  Intellectual development  Collaboration between mathematics and science  Prepare students for the future academic pursuits and occupations

Concerns & Issues  Difficulty in modifying prepared, canned simulations to match teaching objectives.  Simulation software can lack data analysis tools.  Use of instructional time to introduce new procedures and simulation software.

Concerns & Issues  Simulation software needs to incorporate the following data analysis tools: Statistical AnalysisStatistical Analysis Curve of best fitCurve of best fit Derivative and Integral of aboveDerivative and Integral of above Create new set of calculated dataCreate new set of calculated data
