Introduction Strategic Plan signed by the CVOs in January Goal 1: Decrease risk of TB-affected or exposed animals moving in trade. Goal 2: Provide a collaborative framework for the Mexican and US programs. Strategic Plan and progress reports posted on the APHIS and SENASICA websites.
Progress APHIS proposed rule for TB and brucellosis in clearance; to publish CY2015. Mexico defining 12 regions to be evaluated. Draft risk-based protocol for jointly evaluating a region developed.
Protocol Review protocol criteria includes: Boundaries and composition of the region Prevalence of TB Veterinary control and oversight Program elements Surveillance Will begin regional reviews in 2015.
Progress, cont. TB vaccination research trial completed by SENASICA using BCG vaccine in dairy cattle. IDEXX test was evaluated in 3 affected herds. Developing a proposal to evaluate IDEXX in Mexican origin fed cattle in collaboration with TAHC.
Progress, cont. Working to develop, implement and standardize genotyping methods and interpretation of results between US and Mexico. NVSL preparing proficiency tests for culture, direct PCR, spoligotyping and VNTR; Mexico identifying labs to participate. Conducted webinars on whole genome sequencing and TB in cervids
