Mission statements Creates a unified purpose and direction for the a person, an organization, a dept, a team etc. It should answer the following questions: Why do we exist? What are we all about? What is our purpose? What stakeholder needs will we attempt to meet? Adapted from:Stephen Covey’s Principle Centered Leadership

Mission... Mission is purpose or aim. A broad statement of purpose States why we exist.

Personal Mission A personal mission statement: Encourages you to think deeply about your life. Helps you examine your innermost thoughts and feelings. Clarifies what is really important to you. Expands your perspective. Imprints self-determined values and purposes firmly in your mind.

Provides direction and commitment to values. Enables you to make daily progress toward long-term goals (when connected to daily and weekly plans). Provides the first or mental creation of your desired results for your life. The process of writing a mission statement involves answering a series of questions: -What things do I want to have that I feel are important? -What am I about? -What are the qualities of character I would like to emulate? -What legacy do I want to leave? Adapted from:Stephen Covey’s Principle Centered Leadership Personal Mission

Peg ’ s Mission Statement I am a growing, learning, ethical and moral person who cares about myself and others. I will make a difference in the lives of others by treating them with dignity, by listening and caring for them and by working to encourage others to risk and change. I will spend time on the important things. I will re-organize my schedule so that I spend more time on me, my health, Myron, my love and concern for my father and on supporting and mentoring my friends. I will not beat myself up when I don ’ t meet my expectations. I will give myself permission to be a student and learner. I will learn to have more patience with others who don ’ t think the way I do. I will be more at peace with myself since I know that peace comes from being interdependent. Being a part of facilitating the growth of self and others is my mission. Helping others become all that they can be is the focus of that mission. Short version: Through learning and teaching, I will facilitate the growth and develop of self and others.
