In this lesson we will review for the unit assessment and learn test taking strategies.

In this unit you learned about geometry. Today we will review all that you have learned, as well as go over test taking strategies.

Vocabulary Review Polygon – is a closed plane figure made up of line segments. Regular polygon – a polygon that has sides of equal length and angles of equal measure.

Vocabulary Review Line segment – is part of line and has 2 endpoints. Plane– a plane is an endless flat surface.

Vocabulary Review Equilateral triangle – All sides are equal. Isosceles triangle – Two sides are the same length. Scalene triangle – No sides are the same length. Right triangle – One angle is a right angle(90º).

Vocabulary Review Acute triangle – All 3 angles are acute angles (less than 90º). Obtuse triangle – One angle is an obtuse angle (greater than 90º).

Vocabulary Review Quadrilateral – A quadrilateral is any polygon with 4 sides. Parallelogram – both pairs of opposite sides parallel and equal in length. Trapezoid– only 1 pair of parallel sides. Rectangle – a parallelogram with 4 right angles.

Vocabulary Review Rhombus– a parallelogram with all sides the same length. Square– A rectangle with all sides the same length. A square can also be called a rhombus. Generalization – A generalization can be made based on rules.

Vocabulary Review coordinate plane- is a flat surface formed by two intersecting, perpendicular lines. Each of these lines is called an axis. x -axis- The horizontal line. y -axis- The vertical line.

Vocabulary Review Quadrants- The x-axis and the y- axis divide the coordinate plane into four areas. These areas are called quadrants. Ordered Pairs- Digits that indicate where a point is located on a coordinate grid. Ex: (3,2)

Vocabulary Review x -coordinate- The first number in an ordered pair. It is graphed on the x-axis. y -coordinate- The second number in an ordered pair. It is graphed on the y-axis.

Vocabulary Review Area – the amount of surface it covers X =AREA estimation - to give an approximate value rather than an exact answer

Vocabulary Review fraction – a symbol, such as ¾, used to describe one or more parts of a whole that is divided into equal parts. A fraction can name a part of a whole, a part of a set, a location on a number line, or a division of whole numbers.

Vocabulary Review factors - numbers that are multiplied to get a product 7 × 7 = 49 product - the number that is the result of multiplying two or more factors 7 × 7 = 49

Vocabulary-Review geometric solid- a figure that has three dimensions and takes up space polyhedron – another name for a 3-D figure, which means ‘many faces’

Vocabulary-Review face – the flat sides of a solid edges – connects the faces of solids vertices - corners that connect the corners of a solid

Vocabulary-Review volume- the number of cubic units needed to fill a solid figure (measured as u 3 ) cubic unit – the volume of a cube that measures 1 unit on each edge

Vocabulary-Review rectangular prism- A solid (3- dimensional) object which has six faces that are rectangles prism – solid with two congruent parallel bases and faces that are parallelograms

Vocabulary-Review depth – extent downward or backward or inward; "the depth of the water"; "depth of a shelf"; "depth of a closet"

Coordinate Planes and Real World Problems Review

Coordinate Grids help to locate points or destinations. We need to follow the x-axis, then the y-axis. This is used in locating places on a map and used to describe exact locations with a grid.

Calculating Area with Fractional Side Lengths Review

Measure Volume Using Cubic Units Review

Volume is measured in cubic units. Two common units of volume are the cubic centimeter and the cubic inch. The volume of a rectangular prism is a measure of how much space the object takes up.

Finding the volume of a rectangular prism can be calculated using the following equation: Length x Width x Height Volume is measured in cubic units.

Volume and Real World Problems Review

1. Gomer is digging a hole for a rectangular well measuring 38 feet long by 22 feet wide by 8 feet deep. How much water will the well hold, assuming that 1 cubic foot = 7.5 gallons.

2. Concrete costs $105 per cubic yard. Nat is making a rectangular concrete garage floor measuring 33 feet long by 15 feet wide by 1 foot thick.How much will the concrete cost?

1.Gomer is digging a hole for a rectangular well measuring 38 feet long by 22 feet wide by 8 feet deep. How much water will the well hold, assuming that 1 cubic foot = 7.5 gallons. 38 x 22 x 8 = 6,688 cu. ft. 6,688 cu ft. x 7.5 gal/cu. ft. = 50,160 gal.
