Munich Olympics On September 5, 1972 at the Olympic games in Germany, Palestinians took hostage of a group of Israeli athletes and tried to bargain the release of them for the release of 234 prisoners in Israeli jails

Hijacking at Rome Airport December 17, 1973 Five terrorists pulled weapons from their luggage in the terminal at Rome airport. They destroyed the Pan American 707 with incendiary grenades killing 29 people.

Iran Hostage Crisis November 4, 1979 Iranian radicals seized the U.S embassy in Tehran holding 66 diplomats hostage. 13 were released but the other 53 weren’t until January 2, 1981

Bombing of U.S embassy in Beirut April 18, pound suicide truck bomb attack on the embassy in Beirut, Lebanon. 63 people were killed with 120 injured. Islamic Jihad claimed to be responsible

Suicide Bombing One of many types of intimidations that was used to strike fear in to people’s mind, body, and soul. The suicide bomber would sacrifice his own life in order to do damage on the area and to also take out as many people as they could.

Bombing of Marine Barracks October 23, 1983 Simultaneous suicide truck bombings made on American and French compounds in Beirut, Lebanon. Killed 242 Americans and 58 Frenchies. Islamic Jihad was responsible

Restaurant bombing in Spain April 12, U.S servicemen were killed and 83 injured in a bomb attack on a restaurant near a U.S air force base.

TWA Hijacking June 14, 1985 Trans-World Airlines flight was hijacked by two Lebanese Hezbollah terrorists where they were forced to fly to Beirut holding 8 crew members and 145 passengers for 17 days. The aircraft was returned after Israel released 435 Lebanese and Palestinian prisoners

Achille Lauro Hijacking October 7, 1985 Four Palestinian terrorists seized the Italian Cruise liner in the Eastern Mediterranean taking more than 700 hostages. One U.S passenger was murdered before the hostages were released.

Airport Attacks in Rome and Vienna December 27, 1985 Four Abu Nidal Organization gunmen attacked the Trans-World Airline ticket counters in Rome with grenades and automatic rifles killing 13 people and injuring 75. Three more attacked El Al in Vienna killing 3 and injuring 30

Berlin Bombing April 5, 1986 Two U.S soldiers were killed and 79 were injured in a Libyan bomb attack on a night club in Western Berlin, West Germany. U.S retaliated by jet bombing targets in and around Tripoli and Benghazi.

Pan Am 103 Bombing December 21, 1988 Pan American Airlines flight 103 was blown up over Lockerbie, Scotland by a bomb placed on the aircraft by Libyan terrorists. All 259 passengers were killed

World Trade Center Truck Bomb February 26, 1993 W.T.C was badly damaged by a car bomb planted by Islamic terrorists exploded in an underground garage. Left 6 people dead and 1,000 injured. The men carrying the attack out were followers of Umar Abd al-Rahman.

Attempted Assassination of Bush April 14, 1993 Iraqi intelligence service attempted to assassinate former president Bush during a visit to Kuwait. In retaliation the U.S launched a cruise missile attack 2 months later on Baghdad.

Tamil Tigers Attack January 31, 1996 Members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam rammed an explosives-laden truck into the central bank in the heart of downtown Colombo, Sri Lanka killing 90 civilians and injuring more than 1,400 others

Red Cross Worker Kidnappings November 1, 1996 Sudanese People Liberation Army kidnapped three international committee of the red cross. On December 9 th the kidnappers released the hostages in exchange for ICRC supplies and a health survey for their camp

Attack on U.S.S Cole October 12, 2000 In Yemen a small dingy carrying explosives rammed the U.S.S Cole killing 17 sailors and injuring 39

Helicopter Hijacking In Ecuador a group of armed kidnappers led by former members of defunct Colombian Terrorist Organization that took hostage of 10 employees. Later on murdered American hostage Ronald Sander. The following were released February 23 with the payment of $13 million

World Trade Center (Twin Towers) September 11, 2001 Two hijacked airplanes crashed into the twin towers. One hit the first then the second hit the other. In the aftermath the U.S formed the Global Coalition Against Terrorism

Reflection Being ignorant to the topic I just assumed that terrorism was the one attack that happened on the twin towers and never really gave a second thought about it, but now knowing how many extremists were involved it would only make sense that there would be vast numbers of terrorist acts. This terror has been around for many years hurting lives, hearts, and even unions as a whole.
