Biofuels By: Norm Redmond, Brandi Tesauro, Mahogany Johnson

What are biofuels ? Biofuels are liquid, solids,or gaseuos fuels derived from renewable biological sources. Biofuels offer a possibility of producing energy without a net increase of carbon into atmosphere Humans have used biomass fuels in the form of solid biofuels for heating and cooking since discovery of fire. Biodiesel is a biological derived diesel fuel substance created by chemically reacting vegetable oil.

Biofuels produced in the US. Only corn grain are the only biofuels produced in the US. Most of 4billion gallons of ethanol produced in 2005 came from renewable biological sources. Biodiesel id readily used by vehicles with the diesel engines. In 2005,about 75 million gallons of biodiesel were produced, tripling thing 25million gallons produced in 2004.

Positive Aspects Saves nonrenewable resources Less noise, smoke, and and vibrations Greater acceleration then gas engines

Negative Aspects -More difficult to use in colder climates. -Would take one to two hectares to supply the worlds 700m cars. -Corn ethanol is less petroleum-intensive than gas.

The cost of Biofuels Biofuels can be expensive up to three times the price of petroleum Biofuels have traditionally kept their usage down in countries where oil is attractive The price of biofuels are still uncertain

Biofuels Equipment Vegetable oil is used Biofuels are made from sugar, starch, and animal fats as well Made from corn
