Geographical Locations : Temperate Rainforest

Climate  Broken up into wet and dry seasons  Rarely gets below freezing  Summer temps are between 25˚c – 27 ˚c  Receives between 1.5 – 5.0m of rain annually  Largely affected by warm ocean currents

Unique Flora  Coniferous trees dominate  Redwoods, Douglas Firs, Red Cedar  Favorable conditions allow long lifespans  Lichens and Mosses (epiphytes)  Plant that grows on another plant  Gain nutrients from rain, air, and debris  Fungi serve as important decomposers  Break down cellulose  Aide in decomposition

Flora

Unique Fauna  Roosevelt elk  Largest species of Elk in N. America  Large populations and foraging maintain forest floor  Marbled Murrelet  Threatened species  Numerous reproduction fallacies  Rubber Boa  Northern most boa species  Known to be docile

Notable Threats  Deforestation as a result of timber harvest  Soil degradation and pollution  Acid rain  Industry and carbon emissions  Changes in pH effect reproduction in trees  Invasive plant and animals  Upsets the balance of ecosystem  Compete for resources  Rust fungus and Scotch broom
