THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ACT ANNA NUNES PERIOD 4

The Occupational Safety and Health Act was drafted in 1968, signed by President Nixon in 1970, and went into effect in 1971 It was amended in 1969 prior to being signed by President Nixon in 1970 It is a National Act, meaning it applies to the United States only, that was created by the US Department of Labor

The Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) was enacted "to assure so far as possible every working man and woman in the Nation safe and healthful working conditions and to preserve our human resources” OSHA has the authority to create and enforce standards for health and safety in a workplace OSHA also creates the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission to review the standards set by OSHA OSHA was meant to keep the working environment free from toxic chemicals, unsanitary conditions, and mechanical dangers; which in turn reduced the hazardous emissions that factories and businesses would otherwise release
