Assessment Photo Album Earth’s Growing Food Miss. Heineman First Grade Science

Purpose of the Photo Album

This photo album is an overview of our unit on the plant life cycle and how food comes from other sources then the grocery store. Ohio Science Content Standards: –K-2. Life Science. 2.A -Discover that there are living things, non-living things and pretend things, and describe the basic needs of living things. –K-2. Life Science. 2.B.2 -Explain that food comes from sources other then grocery stores.

Learning Goals

Students will see and understand the life cycle of how a seed can give us food to harvest. Students will be able to name the three main natural resources that every seed and plant needs to grow. Students will add a daily entry to their journals on their observation of their terrarium. Students will role play as reporters and interview a peer about their terrarium and the seeds they picked.

Formative Assessment Daily Journal Entries

Students observing their terrarium will enter their data into their journal and using the student checklist: Did I use a capital letter? Did I put a period at the end? Did I add my picture? Did I label and draw a line to show the seed? Did I label and draw a line to show the roots? Did I label and draw a line to show the sprout? Did I label and draw a line to show the stem? Did I label and draw a line to show the plant? Did I note what type of seeds were planted? Is it a fruit or a vegetable?

Performance Assessment
