GABRIELAGABRIELA MISTRALMISTRAL NOBELPRIZENOBELPRIZE WINNERWINNER

Gabriela Mistral lived from 1889 to During her early childhood, she lived in the town of Vicuna, Chile, as the daughter of a dilettante poet (her father), and began work as a schoolteacher. She accepted an invitation work with the Mexican Minister of Education. After this, she began to travel.

Poetry Gabriela Mistral wrote her first book of poetry in 1914, Sonetos de la Muerta (Sonnets of Motherhood), which gave her fame through the Latin American world. Her first large success was Desolacion, or Desolation, which was published in These were succeeded by an assortment of other books of prose, such as Ternura (Tenderness) and Tala. In 1958, her entire collection of poems was published.

The Nobel Prize! In 1945, Ms. Mistral was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. The reason was "for her lyric poetry which, inspired by powerful emotions, has made her name a symbol of the idealistic aspirations of the entire Latin American world. Not only did she receive the medal and prize money, but worldwide acclaim. Gabriela Mistral died in her sleep on January 10, "
