Our New Reality Common Core ELA and Math Framework for Science Education Next Generation Science Standards Adopted in January 2011; required instruction in k-12 science, content reading and writing grades 6-12 Developed by National Research Council to provide a guide for the development of Next Generation Science Standards READ informational text ; write using evidence from text, draw conclusions from multiple sources LITERACY in the CONTEN T AREA Released for public comment in the summer of 2010 FINAL EDITION released in Summer of 2011 Standards are being developed, based on the Framework for Science Education by Achieve NYS teachers and STANYS are participating in “confidential reviews” of the NGSS NGSS available for public comment in Jan/Feb of 2012; STANYS will notify members when available NYS will decide whether or not to adopt the NGSS after has been finished NYS is highly invested in the development of NGSS
