2 Overdue Notice 3 (Ten weeks overdue ) Building Principal: We sent some members of your staff an Overdue Notice 1 and Notice 2. Please have a dialog with these individuals and ask them to communicate with us. Overdue Notice 2 (Six weeks overdue ) We sent you an Overdue Notice and you did not: Let us know if it was sent back a while ago. Get it to the Courier Pick Up site. Call to request if you needed more time. Please communicate with us. Overdue Notice 1 ( Two weeks Overdue ) If it is “in the mail” – please ignore this. If it was sent back “a while ago” – please let us know. If it “sitting around” – please get it to the Courier Pick Up spot. If you “need more time” – please call/email to request an extension.

3 Next Generation Science Standards For New York State

4 The Next Generation Science Standards are currently being developed based on the Framework for K–12 Science Education. The “Framework” was developed by the National Research Council, the staff arm of the National Academy of Science. It was finalized in 2011 – 2012. Development of K –12 Science Standards

5 Twenty-six states have joined in this initiative. Lead Partner States: 26Achieve: guiding the process State Adoption: Whether individual states decide to adopt the standards and whether they become consistent between the states will ultimately be up to the states themselves.

7 As part of the development process, the standards will undergo multiple reviews from many stakeholders. This includes two public drafts, allowing all who have a stake in science education an opportunity to inform the development of the standards. 14 Framework - What grounded in the most current research on science and science learning identifies the science all K–12 students should know. Framework - Who a committee of 18 individuals who are nationally and internationally known in their respective fields four design teams, in physical science, life science, earth/space science, and engineering
