Physical Education Physical Education b Students must have a total of 4 semesters of P.E. or Athletics while they are in Middle School. b If you had P.E. all year in 6 th grade then you need 2 more semesters. b You can take them both in 7 th grade, you can take one semester in 7 th and one in 8 th or b You take take both semesters in 8 th grade

Athletics Boys Athletics Football - 1st Semester (stay in all year) Basketball – (can go into class in Nov) Track - 2nd semester – (can take PE fall, Athletics spring) Girls Athletics Volleyball - 1st Semester (stay in all year) Basketball - (can go into class in Nov) Track - 2nd Semester (all year in athletics)

More about Athletics... b There are no tryouts for Football or Track b You CAN BE in PE and try out for Basketball – you will need to move into Athletics if you make the team – this may mean a pretty big schedule change b If you are in Athletics and do not make a team you will stay in Athletics participating in off season which involves lots of conditioning and running

Athletics b b You CAN fail Athletics if you do not dress out and/or actively participate each day. b You do not have to be in Athletics to try out for a sport, but if you make the team, your schedule WILL change.

Off Campus PE b Requires at least 5 hours of training, Monday-Friday b Students will select an additional elective in place of their school PE class. b There is an application process in place, ending with approval at the district level. b Processing requests for Off Campus PE for the upcoming school year is recommended prior to May 15. b Applications will not be accepted after the first three weeks of a semester.

Cheerleading b Mandatory Parent Meeting Feb. 13 at 5:00pm in the library. Parents MUST attend. b Tryouts are March 8 th b You must attend practice March 4-8 from 4:00-5:30pm. b If you make the cheerleading squad, you will be required to take one semester of Cheer Training which counts as one semester of PE.

Verification Sheets b Verification Sheets will be sent home in April and again with the end of year report card. b The verification sheet is not the same as a SCHEDULE. The verification sheet is just VERIFYING what you are REQUESTING to have in your schedule. The verification sheet is just VERIFYING what you are REQUESTING to have in your schedule. b There may be a conflict with another class that you want or the class may be full. This means that one of the backup choices on your green card would be substituted for one of the electives listed on your Verification Sheet. That is why it is SO important to list alternatives.

Reading or Math Strategies... b If a student is placed in READING or MATH STRATEGIES it will take the place of 2 one semester electives or a year long elective. b If your 6th grade teacher recommends a strategy class then the class is taken in 7th grade.
