Robert Edward Lee January 19,1807- October 12, 1870

Early Years of Robert E. Lee 1825  Entered United States Military Academy of West Point  Graduated with honors.  Joined the Corps of Engineers  Transferred to Fortress Monroe.

Family Life 1831  Lee marries Mary Ann Custis  Lee and Mary bore seven children.

United States Military 1852-Superintendent of the United States Military Academy at West Point Confirmed into the Episcopal Church Lee leads a command of United States Marines to capture John Brown and his cohorts at Harpers Ferry.

U.S Military continued 1860  Ordered to San Antonio, Texas, to take command of the Department of Texas  Resigns his commission in the U.S. Army.

Confederate Army 1861  May 14- Appointed Brigadier General in the Confederate States Army.  June 14-Attains the rank of General in the Confederate States Army.  September 12-Battle of Cheat Mountain.

Confederate Army continued 1862  May 31- Joseph E. Johnston is wounded at the Battle of Seven Pines.  August 28- Second Battle of Manassas or Bull Run.  September 17- Battle of Antietam.  December 13- Battle of Fredicksburg.

Conclusion 1870  October 12-Robert Edward Lee dies in Lexington, Virginia  July 22-Congress Passed a law restoring Lee’s Citizenship  August 5-President Gerald Ford signs in to law the bill Congress passed restoring Lee’s Citizenship to the United States.
