Art 222 :: Digital Multimedia :: Week 9 :: B In-class Presentation :: Calendar

Art 222 :: Digital Multimedia :: Week 9 :: B In-class Presentation :: Today’s Agenda  Informal walk-around critique to look at everyone’s 1st drafts  Lesson:  How to get access to the NMA sound library  On a PC, map a network drive to: \\nma-server\audio\  Quick look at “Wiggle” in AE (intro to expressions)  To initiate an expression, alt-click the stop watch for the property or select the property and go to ANIMATION > ADD EXPRESSION  wiggle(frequency,amplitude)  Detailed review on how to export different formats from Premiere and After Effects

Art 222 :: Digital Multimedia :: Week 9 :: B In-class Presentation Exporting for DVD from Premiere 1.WINDOWS DV AVI (.avi) – (720x480.9 or 1.2 pixel aspect ratio) Exporting 3 Web Formats from Premiere All should be half size (320x240 square pixel aspect ratio) 1.Quicktime (.mov) – QT 256 Streaming 2.Windows Media (.wmv) – WM9 NTSC 256K Download 3.Real Media (.rmvb) – RM9 NTSC Download 256 :: Lesson

Art 222 :: Digital Multimedia :: Week 9 :: B In-class Presentation :: Lesson  More Details on Exporting from Premiere  When you want to export your movie to eventually bring it into Adobe Encore DVD to burn a DVD, I recommend that you export out a Windows DV AVI file (FILE > EXPORT > MOVIE):  WINDOWS DV AVI  NTSC 720x480 .9 pixel aspect ratio for regular DV, 1.2 for widescreen DV  When you want to create files for sharing on the web, you’ll want to use Adobe’s Media Encoder (FILE > EXPORT > ADOBE MEDIA ENCODER) and the following settings:  Quicktime (.mov) – QT 256 Streaming  Windows Media (.wmv) – WM9 NTSC 256K Download  Real Media (.rmvb) – RM9 NTSC Download 256  Flash Video (.flv) – FLV8 NTSC 400K

Art 222 :: Digital Multimedia :: Week 9 :: B In-class Presentation Exporting for DVD from After Effects 1.UNCOMPRESSED MICROSOFT AVI (.avi) 2.WINDOWS DV AVI (.avi) – (720x480.9 or 1.2 pixel aspect ratio) Exporting 3 Web Formats from After Effects All should be half size (320x240 square pixel aspect ratio) 1.Quicktime (.mov) – Sorenson 3 compression  note: AE produces slightly larger Quicktime files 2.Windows Media (.wmv) – WM9 NTSC 256K Download 3.Real Media (.rmvb) – RM9 NTSC Download 256 :: Lesson

Art 222 :: Digital Multimedia :: Week 9 :: B In-class Presentation :: Lesson  More Details on Exporting from After Effects  Always use AE’s Render Queue (COMPOSITION > ADD TO RENDER QUEUE). Do not use FILE > EXPORT.  Always keep the “Best” Settings under RENDER SETTINGS.  Be sure to check Audio Output if you have audio.  When you want to export your movie to eventually bring it into Encore to burn onto a DVD, depending upon your content you’ll have a few options:  IDEAL OPTION: If your piece is short, then UNCOMPRESSED Microsoft AVI files are always best. But these can be VERY LARGE! BEWARE!  ALTERNATIVE OPTION : DIGITAL VIDEO OPTION – If your content consists mainly of DV video (720x480 DV) I recommend that you export out a “Video for Windows” Microsoft DV AVI:  When you want to create files for sharing on the web, you’ll want to use Adobe’s Media Encoder (FILE > EXPORT > ADOBE MEDIA ENCODER) and the following settings:  FOR ALL WEB FORMATS BE SURE TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE OUTPUT DIMENSIONS!!!  You will want your web files to be half size - 320x240 square pixel.  Quicktime (.mov) – Sorenson 3 compression (note: AE produces large QT files)  Windows Media (.wmv) – WM9 NTSC 256K Download  Real Media (.rmvb) – RM9 NTSC Download 256  Flash Video (.flv) – FLV8 NTSC 400K

Art 222 :: Digital Multimedia :: Week 9 :: B In-class Presentation :: Mid-Term Assignment SHORT TIME-BASED MULTIMEDIA PROJECT  Purpose/Objective:  To go through the full creative design process for cinematic time-based projects.  To integrate images, motion graphic design, digital video, sound effects, and music into a unified multimedia work of art.  To effectively defend course work conceptually.  Assignment: To create a short timed based piece of multimedia art using any combination of media and multimedia software. You can use stock video library footage, your own video footage, still photography, or graphics that you create from scratch. Conceptually/thematically there are no restrictions. The final product can be abstract/experimental (ie. video art, Norman McLaren, etc). or traditional and linearly narrative (ie. drama, comedy, documentary, etc.) Formally, your final piece must be no less than 10 seconds and no more than 10 minutes.  Some Potential Ideas:  A short film (narrative, experimental, documentary, surf film, etc. – all genres are ok)  A music video  The opening title sequence to a film  A trailer to a movie (you can use the existing footage to a movie, then edit it to create your own trailer)  A logo animation (i.e. the animations that you see before a film begins at the theater)  A commercial (30 seconds or 1 minute in length)  Experimental animation  Others may be ok (come speak to me if you have an idea not listed above)  Format: There are two major parts to the assignment: 1.DVD with custom DVD Interface Menu (using Adobe InDesign) 2.Four downloading web versions of the film to be handed-in via either data cd or flash usb drive.  Quicktime (.mov)  Windows Media Player (.wmv)  Real Player (.rm) due ::
