7 Art 222 :: Digital Multimedia :: Week 6 :: B In-class Presentation :: A Potential Real World Project Idea  PSA (Public Service Announcement) for SAGE PLUS  Sage PLUS provides statewide health insurance information counseling and referrals to people 60 years or older, their families and caregivers. Trained volunteer counselors provide consultations and presentations at no charge to the public.  http://www4.hawaii.gov/eoa/programs/sage_plus/index.html http://www4.hawaii.gov/eoa/programs/sage_plus/index.html  They need four 30 second commercials/PSA’s 1.Sage PLUS Program  Who we are  What we do  Who we help  How to reach us 2.Volunteer Recruitment  Challenging: Medicare is always changing. Keeps our mind active.  Rewarding: Helping people is rewarding.  Educational: For soon-to-be retirees, our volunteer work helps us prepare for our post-65 years. For those of us who are already retired, the information we learn helps us manage our own health needs. 3.Long Term Care  Options for type of care  The costs  How to pay for long term care 4.Message to Caregivers  Sage PLUS is a resource for caregivers  How to reach us  If you are interested, I will arrange a meeting with a SAGE contact person to get you started on the project

8 Art 222 :: Digital Multimedia :: Week 6 :: B In-class Presentation :: Assignment – Part 1  Personal Film Treatment due at our next class  Write up a brief “treatment” of your idea and post it onto your class web page.  What is a treatment?  Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_treatmenthttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_treatment  My answer: it depends on the project and the filmmaker. In our case our treatments must describe the story, or concept, of our time-based project. It can be purely text written in a story/paragraph format, it can be a series of sketches or storyboards, it can be a visual map with accompanying text or legend, or any combination of the above or other method that communicates the full story/concept of the project.  What is the purpose?  To write-out your idea before you begin production.  To define the scope of your project (how much time it will take to produce, duration of final product, etc.)  To establish a conceptual framework and a game plan that you can stick to over the next couple of weeks. due :: 02.21.07

9 Art 222 :: Digital Multimedia :: Week 6 :: B In-class Presentation :: Assignment – Part 2  Watch the video tutorials on text animation techniques using After Effects and post a 5 second test text animation.  Experiment with different text animation techniques on your own.  Have fun and be sure to try several different techniques.  Export out a small (5 seconds or less) Windows Media Video file (.wmv) of one of your text animation tests. Post the.wmv file on your class web page.  In the render queue, under “Output Module”, be sure to change the size to 360 x 240.  In the render queue, under “Output Module”, be sure to choose “Windows Media” under FORMAT and “WM9 NTSC download 256kbps” )the defaault) under FORMAT OPTIONS.  Your rendered file should be a.wmv file under 500K. Mine is 176K (very small and easy to post online). due :: 02.21.07

10 Art 222 :: Digital Multimedia :: Week 6 :: B In-class Presentation :: Mid-Term Assignment SHORT TIME-BASED MULTIMEDIA PROJECT  Purpose/Objective:  To go through the full creative design process for cinematic time-based projects.  To integrate images, motion graphic design, digital video, sound effects, and music into a unified multimedia work of art.  To effectively defend course work conceptually.  Assignment: To create a short timed based piece of multimedia art using any combination of media and multimedia software. You can use stock video library footage, your own video footage, still photography, or graphics that you create from scratch. Conceptually/thematically there are no restrictions. The final product can be abstract/experimental (ie. video art, Norman McLaren, etc). or traditional and linearly narrative (ie. drama, comedy, documentary, etc.) Formally, your final piece must be no less than 10 seconds and no more than 10 minutes.  Some Potential Ideas:  A short film (narrative, experimental, documentary, surf film, etc. – all genres are ok)  A music video  The opening title sequence to a film  A trailer to a movie (you can use the existing footage to a movie, then edit it to create your own trailer)  A logo animation (i.e. the animations that you see before a film begins at the theater)  A commercial (30 seconds or 1 minute in length)  Experimental animation  Others may be ok (come speak to me if you have an idea not listed above)  Format: There are two major parts to the assignment: 1.DVD with custom DVD Interface Menu (using Adobe InDesign) 2.Four downloading web versions of the film to be handed-in via either data cd or flash usb drive.  Quicktime (.mov)  Windows Media Player (.wmv)  Real Player (.rm) due :: 03.19.07
