Static Electricity Static electricity: A stationary electrical charge that is built up on the surface of a material. There are three ways to transfer negative charges from one substance to another: Friction Conduction Induction

Friction: When two neutral objects are rubbed against one another, the negative charges travel to the object with the greater affinity for the charges.
