Stages of Construction – Brainstorming the concepts (starting from scratch)  List all terms and concepts associated with the topic.  Mark up the documents and write important information in the margins Organizing the concepts in prewriting  Write them as a concept map or organized jot list. (one word or phrase)  Join like ideas on the prewrite Layout/Drafting  Begin writing the ideas from the prewrite into complete sentences in the order in which you joined them on the organizer. Revising the draft  Read through the draft making corrections, additions, deletions, etc. 3 Final Copy  Copy the final draft into your grading folder.

Understanding and Using the Information in the Gateway Documents The documents in Form 303 are typical of the documents in other Gateway Science Forms. Each Document in Form 303 matches one of the bullets in the Writing Task Before the test, review the meanings of arrows in diagrams, maps & formulas. Research indicates that arrows in scientific diagrams can have up to six different meanings. – Representation of force – Showing change – Indicating sequence – Labeling – Measuring – Showing relationships 4
