October 6, 2008 Environmental Science Mrs. Waldinger Aim: How does oxygen cycle in nature? Do Now: How do animals get oxygen? HW #6: Complete the packet.

Essential Parts of the Carbon Dioxide Oxygen Cycle
Carbon is an element that is present in all living organisms. Carbon is attached to oxygen and thorough photosynthesis with the help of the sun it enables the plants to make food. Carbon moves from the atmosphere to plants in the form of a gas; carbon dioxide (CO2). Carbon moves from plants to animals through food chains Carbon moves from plants and animals to the ground when they die and decay. Carbon moves from living things to the atmosphere through respiration.

Analyze the following Charts

Look at the illustrations to the left that demonstrates the oxygen and carbon cycles.

Look at the illustration below and explain what is happening in the Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide Cycles.

Which organisms in the picture release carbon dioxide? Which take it in?

In the picture, which organisms release oxygen? Which take it in?

What is the name of the process during which green plants release oxygen? What is the name of the process during which people and animals release CO2?
