The Prepared Graduate: Bridging the Gap Between Knowledge and Application MEGA Conference 2014 Presenters: Reeda Betts Phyllis Rase Wendy Warren

Outcome 1 Participants will identify characteristics of a prepared graduate and apply the characteristics to their teaching standards.

TO BUILD THE BRIDGE KNOW THIS… “A good teacher makes you think even when you don’t want to.” (Fisher, 1998, Teaching Thinking)

The Prepared Graduate Possesses the knowledge and skills needed to enroll and succeed in credit- bearing, first- year courses at a two- or four-year college, trade school, technical school, without the need for remediation. Possesses the ability to apply core academic skills to real-world situations through collaboration with peers in problem solving, precision, and punctuality in delivery of a product, and has a desire to be a life- long learner.

TO BUILD THE BRIDGE KNOW THIS… The positive trajectory of the Prepared Graduate depends on both the K-12 and the cross-curricular connections.

Outcome 2 Participants will determine how the literacy standards support content and curriculum to bridge the gap between knowledge and application.
