Overview of Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement partners with businesses and educators to brings the real world to students, opening their minds to their potential. We teach kids how America Works!

Our Purpose: To inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Our Vision: To provide every student with a fundamental understanding of the free enterprise system.

Junior Achievement has successfully partnered with teachers, schools and businesses to deliver quality programs for over 85 years using the same simple business model. It takes three things to make that model work: The best curriculum available A trained volunteer working with a teacher Funding for that curriculum to support the efforts of our volunteers and teachers

JA Central Texas Fact Sheet Junior Achievement programs teach financial literacy and economic education to students in Kindergarten through 12 th grade. In , JA Central Texas reached over 12,000 students in public and private schools throughout the area. Over 500 business employees volunteer in the classroom for JA each year. JA’s programs work. According to a survey conducted by the Worldwide Institute for Research and Evaluation, JA participants had higher high school completion rates and higher college enrollment rates than their non-participating peers.

JA Curriculum Spans grades K-12 with all programs providing experiential learning opportunities Focus on seven key content areas –Financial Literacy –Economics –Entrepreneurship –Business –Ethics/Character –Citizenship –Career Development

JA programs align with state and federal academic content standards. Teachers have high praise for the program. They rate it 9.4 on a 10-point scale. Ninety-nine percent also say their students enjoy it. Teachers credit volunteers as a major factor in the impact of the curriculum, saying that volunteers bring an outside business perspective into the classroom and serve as positive role models for students.
