1 OAKLAND UNIVERSITY ENTREPRENEURSHIP INSTITUTE STUDENTS IN FREE ENTERPRISE Vision Oakland University SIFE has a vision that is focused on achieving two goals. Goal #1: To design, manage and sustain projects that teach business, financial literacy and entrepreneurship skills to economically challenged teens in the Detroit metro area, and inspire them to change their lives in order to achieve their maximum potential. Goal #2: To create a distinctive student experience where, through participation in real life commercial ventures, the Oakland University SIFE members can develop and foster skills that will allow them to effectively participate in the business environment. Program Schedule Summary Programs To Achieve Goal # 1 Project Bridge to Life A mentoring and workshop program held at Pontiac Central & Pontiac Northern high schools to teach financial literacy and entrepreneurship skills. Twice a week two hour workshops at each school for the complete school year. Approximately 60 students attend the workshops. Visits by local businesses. Students also develop and run a school Planner business. Total of 4,800 student hours per school year Project Impact A workshop program held at Jefferson Whittier Middle School to teach principles of market economics and global trade. 12 one hour workshops Approximately 400 sixth and seventh grade students. Total of 400 student hours per school year Entrepreneurship Summer Camp A two week intensive summer camp where select high school students from the metro area live on Oakland University’s campus. Entrepreneurship and Business Plan Workshops with hands-on implementation. Approximately 25 high school juniors recruited from metro area schools. Scholarships awarded to graduates and competition winners. Total of 5,150 student hours per Summer Camp 1

2 OAKLAND UNIVERSITY ENTREPRENEURSHIP INSTITUTE STUDENTS IN FREE ENTERPRISE Programs To Achieve Goal # 1 Cont. Coleman A. Young Foundation A one day interactive workshop on Oakland University’s campus, to teach financial literacy and entrepreneurship skills. Approximately 75 high school students and faculty from the Detroit school system. Total of 450 student / faculty hours per workshop 2 Programs To Achieve Goal # 2 Project Apollo Oakland University SIFE students plan and implement business strategies to distribute and sell a variety of products at 25 Walgreens retail stores around the metro area. Approximately 20 OU SIFE students per year involved in the project Project Alcove Proposed new project to market products through the Oakland Center. Involves complete business planning and implementation by Oakland University SIFE students. Approximately 15 OU SIFE students per ye ar will be involved in the project SIFE Exposition and Competition Competition involves a formal presentation by Oakland University SIFE members to a panel of judges selected by SIFE National. Teams are evaluated on how the prior year accomplishments met specific criteria established by SIFE National. Five hundred SIFE teams in the U.S. are selected to compete. Regional Competition: - Regional Champions 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 National Competition: - Semi-Final First Runner Up in 2002 & 2004 - Semi-Final Second Runner Up in 2003 - Opening Round First Runner Up in 2005 & 2006 - Opening Round Second Runner Up in 2007 Approximately 10 OU SIFE students attend Regional and National Expositions annually.
