Paper Air Planes Miss Laverty 2012

March 15 th, )Please hand out the work books 2)Grab today’s hand out 3)Sit down and show me you are ready to make some paper air planes! Today’s Activities 3 paper air planes Final distance challenge Air song Title Pages

The low down… We will make the planes as a class Half of the class will test in the hallway The other half will test in the classroom Please remember proper hallway behaviour! Complete the worksheet for each plane you create

Airplane #1

Diagram: Thrust, lift, drag and gravity/weight

Airplane #1 Challenge: convert your paper plane to a stunt plane! Use the chart to check which stunts you were able to perform and what adaptations you had to make – Fly straight, dive, bank left, bank right, loop and boomerang

Air Plane #2

Diagram: Thrust, lift, drag and gravity/weight

Air Plane #2 How does your airplane have thrust? – Thrust is the force that moves a plane forward through the air – The thrust comes from the force of our hand launching the airplane

Loop Plane

Diagram: Thrust, lift, drag and gravity/weight

Loop Plane Try this plane out with the wings “out” (so that the wings are open, rather than taped up in a circle) did it still work? Why?

Final Challenge Final Challenge: choose your favourite air plane to enter the distance competition. You will each get to throw your airplane on the “runway”. The airplane that travels the furthest will be the winner.

Air Song!! Use your indoor voice (we don’t want to wake the neighbours) xg&ob=av2e xg&ob=av2e

I throw my hands up in the air sometimes Saying A-oh air is everywhere I wanna celebrate and breathe some air Saying a-oh Baby let’s go Air can be compressed ‘pressed ‘pressed, Blows out a candle ‘Cuz it’s a fluid, fluid, fluid, fluid Has all my favourite Kind of Gas, gas, gas, gas Give me some space for my all air air air air Ye ye It goes on and on and on And it does exert pressure! YEAH!!
