1 You need: A pencil, eraser and your Science duo-tang
Learning About Flight You need: A pencil, eraser and your Science duo-tang

2 Get Started What happens to the air inside the balloon when you inflate it? What happens to the air inside the balloon when you let the balloon go?

3 Communicate Answer Communicate questions 1 and 2 on page 20

4 Build on What You Know Describe Bernoulli’s Principle in your Flight Passport. Do this in your own words, using diagrams, etc. Give two examples of products that use this principle outside the classroom.

5 Bernoulli’s Principle is used to explain properties of aerodynamics
Bernoulli’s Principle is used to explain properties of aerodynamics. This same principle explains how airplane wings work. As a jet plane is thrust through the air by the hot exhaust gases expelled from its engines, the shape of the wing forces the air travelling over the top of the wing to move faster…

6 This lowers the air pressure and gives lift to the wing, allowing the plane to take off from the ground and increase altitude as it flies through the air.
