5. Diving Paper Materials: – Sheet of paper – A drinking glass – A clear container filled with water

6. Diving Paper Procedure 1.Crumple up the piece of paper and push it into the bottom of the glass 2.Turn the glass over and push it straight down into the container of water 3.Observe and record results

8. Diving Paper Results: – Air stays in the glass – Some water gets in the glass – The paper does not get wet

Diving Paper Inference: – Air takes up space so there is no room for the water to enter – The water pressure compressed the air, allowing some water into the glass – When the air pressure in the glass equalled the pressure exerted by the water, no more water could get in and the paper stayed dry

10. Huff and Puff Challenge: blow up the balloon Materials: – Deflated balloon – Empty, clean plastic bottle

11. Huff and Puff Procedure: – Push the deflated balloon into the bottle and stretch the open end of the balloon back over the bottle’s mouth – Without removing the balloon from the bottle, try to blow it up – Observe and record results

14. Huff and Puff Inference: – The air inside the bottle is taking up space – When you try and blow air into the balloon, it only inflates a little bit – The balloon inflates slightly because as you blow it compresses the air inside the bottle

15. Huff and Puff Real life example: – Tube for pulling behind a boat – Has 2 valves fro 2 separate bladders – Inflate the inner one first – Why?
