Unusual/Unique Characteristic Enrich your collection with… “A string of pearls scattered over the deep blue Indian Ocean” The first glimpse you get of this fascinating atoll- formation confirms two unique aspects of the Republic of Maldives. Not only does it consist of the most beautiful tropical islands, but 99% of its 90.000 km² is covered by the sea. 1190 islands are spread over 26 atolls, ring-like coral formations enclosing a lagoon, which gives the Maldives its unique paradise-like appearance.

Globalization Impact Economic Growth Global trading and commercial activities have much impact on the Maldivian economy. Lack of arable and economically productive land, constraints resulting from tiny islands dispersed over a vast tract of sea and the lack of natural resources force us to depend on outside forces for even such basic necessities as food, clothing and shelter. Trading and Investment

Globalization Impact Trading and Investment Education Maldives has been involved in International trade due to its sea routes Education Mostly foreign teachers are involved in primary and secondary education in Male and other islands. Expanding education to vocational training, management training, training in hospitality industry, job-specific training and higher education for some in different parts of the globe. Transport Maldivians have traditionally been good seaman and excellent boat builders. The development of an international and regional airports, increased the contribution of air transport as an important factor in integrating with the rest of the world.

Globalization Impact Communication Maldivians these days have very modern telecommunication network spread through out the country as well as globally. Fisheries Fisheries were the backbone of Maldivian economy, the main source of foreign exchange and the main occupation of people. The Government is in the process of liberalising certain aspects of the fishing industry. Tourism Tourism did, however, develop in a spectacular manner. It lifted the economy and introduced the Maldives to the global economy.
