According to the Georgia Board of Cosmetology, in order to receive a license for barber, cosmetologist, esthetician, or nail technician, students must complete these requirements: You must be at least 17 years of age and of good moral character You must attend a licensed school You must complete (depending on which pathway you take) a certain amount of training or apprenticeship hours Lastly, you must take a licensing exam issued by the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology. The exams are Master Cosmetology Practical Exam and Master cosmetology Theory Exam All Cosmetologist licenses must be renewed every 2 years.
