2 Outlook of the Beauty Industry Employment opportunities for cosmetology are expected to grow faster than the average for all other occupations through the year 2005 According to a National Cosmetology Association study, there are approximately 11 job opportunities for everyone who receives their license

3 Trends of the Beauty Industry There has been a dramatic increase in the demand for spas, due to the ‘safe’ and nurturing environment As a result of many popular reality television shows (such as The Swan, Extreme Makeover, Blowout), people have become more conscientious about their personal appearance

6 How much will I get paid? Salaries range from $22,000 and up Compensation will vary greatly due to: –Flexible hours –Type of salon –Services offered –Location –Experience …Some people make well over $100,000!!

7 How can I get hired? Try to get involved in a salon while you are in school Attend trade shows & classes Be open-minded Research the type of salon you’d like to work in Have resume & portfolio prepared Make a good first impression Be flexible

10 What courses should I take in high school? Cosmetology, Nail Technician, or Esthetics here at CTEC Business courses –Learn how to run a business Computers –Many salons use them for appointments, inventory, payroll, etc. Science –There’s more involved than you think!

11 Where can I get a job during high school? The following salons work with our school: –JCPenny in Middletown –Liz’s Salon in Goshen –Dolson Ave. Cutters in Middletown –Split Endz in Monroe

12 Where can I go to college? Orange County Community College (2-year) –Massage Therapy –Theatrical Make-Up –Business Management –Education …You can then transfer to a 4-year SUNY college –SUNY New Paltz –SUNY Oswego (Newburgh)
