Internet Safety Social Networks Abbreviated as SNS a social networking site is the phrase used to describe any Web site that enables users to create public profiles within that Web site and form relationships with other users of the same Web site who access their profile.

Internet Safety Cyberbullying Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology, such as cell phones, computers, and tablets as well as communication tools including social media sites, text messages, chat, and websites. Examples of cyberbullying include mean text messages or s, rumors sent by or posted on social networking sites, and embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles.

Internet Safety Techno Addiction When we think of addiction, most of us think of alcoholism or drug abuse. But the easy access, anonymity, and constant availability of the Internet, , texting, chatting and twittering has led to a new form of compulsive and dependent behavior – “techno-addicts”.

Internet Safety Despite using science and technology to improve our lives, we are the real slaves to technology. We have the need to always have something electronic in our hands – a tool that connects us to the Internet, our games or to our social networks. Technology keeps us connected to the Internet and it has done much good for our lives. However, when your digital devices are taking up too much of your life, you know it’s time to switch it off and enjoy life unplugged.

Internet Safety Digital footprint Your digital footprint is everything on the Internet that is about you. This could include a profile on Facebook or MySpace, photographs that you, your friends or family have posted online, and anything you have written or that has been written about you. Remember: Every time you go online you leave a trail!!

Internet Safety Spam Spam is most often considered to be electronic junk mail or junk newsgroup postings. Some people define spam even more generally as any unsolicited .

Internet Safety Internet Shopping Online shopping is the act of purchasing products or services over the internet.

Internet Safety Consumer tips Make sure the product is legal. Use only websites that your browser recognises as secure. A secure address begins with or an image of a padlock will appear in the bottom right corner of your browser window.

Internet Safety ICTs advantages ICTs stand for information and communication technologies and are defined, for the purposes, as a “diverse set of technological tools and resources used to communicate, and to create, disseminate, store, and manage information.” These technologies include computers, the Internet, broad casting technologies (radio and television), and mobile phones.

Internet Safety The good side The Internet is a global network connecting millions of computers. It can be a wonderful resource for researching information, communicating with friends, shopping for hard to find items, and for simple entertainment. Nevertheles, it can also be a dangerous world for young people and adults who are not prepared for the dangers that await.

Internet Safety Netiquette The word netiquette is a combination of ’net’ (from internet) and ’etiquette’. It means respecting other users’ views and displaying common-sense courtesy when posting your views to online discussion groups. It is amazing how many people seem to forget their manners when they go online. It requires never forgetting that at the other end of the connection is a person. Inconsiderate comments are as offending via a computer screen as in a face-to-face encounter.
