Answer the questions in the next slides in your jotter… Some are individual Some allow you to talk to your shoulder partner Some allow you to consult with your group

INDIVIDUAL When in possession of the ball in basketball how many options do you have? Next

PARTNER When you first gain possession of the ball, you need to evaluate the options available to you in a specific order. Fill in the blanks below 1……………………. 2.Pass……………….. 3……………………. Next

INDIVIDUAL When in possession of the ball you decide to pass to a teammate. In the scenario below which teammate would you pass to A or B? Next You A B Defender

PARTNER In the previous question, which player did you decide to pass to……….. Explain why you passed to this player. (think about what could have happened if you had attempted to pass to the other player) Next

GROUP As soon as you gain possession of the ball…. 1.You start dribbling on the spot. 2.You then stop dribbling to consider your options Explain what is wrong with this series of actions Next

GROUP When in possession of the ball your team takes a long time when evaluating the options available to them. 1.Will this: (a)Speed up your attack (b)Slow down your attack 2.Explain how this makes it more difficult for your team to successfully score? Next

GROUP Taking account of the last six questions. What mental factor do you think has the biggest impact on your performance?

A choice that you make about something after thinking about several possibilities….

How does quick decision making impact on you opponents performance? Making the correct decision quickly reduces the chance of your opponent being able to intercept or gain possession of the ball. How does quick decision making impact on the success rate of your passing? Making the correct decision when passing cuts down the chance of your team losing possession of the ball. How does decision making impact on the speed of your teams attack? Making the correct decision quickly when attacking helps your team to attack with speed. This reduces the chance of the opposition getting back to set up their defence. How does your ability to make quick decisions impact on your opposition? Quick decision making reduces the oppositions thinking time, limiting the chances of them taking up a good defensive position and intercepting the ball.
