Higher Grade / Intermediate 1/2 Preparation of the Body

Lesson objective  To ensure we are prepared for a range of questions  To work on quickly structuring responses  To complete questions in the allocated time frame  To be able to asses how well you did and how well those in your class did

Range of questions  Q1 Fitness requirements to perform successfully  Q2 Fitness Assessment  Q3 Fitness requirements  Q4 Principles of Training/ Designing your TP/ Developing your TP  Q5 Methods of Training  Q6 Monitoring Your training programme  Q7 Evaluating your TP  Q8 Target Setting  Q9 Periodisation- Phases of Training

 Example Part A  Question 3 (a) Choose an activity Describe in detail the range of fitness requirements for effective performance. (6 marks)

Tasks  Task 1 In your jotter you should make up a plan in order to help you answer your question.  Task 2 Swap your notes with someone on the other side of the room who will add or amend anything you have missed.

How to structure our answer Opening paragraph will include:  The activity you have chosen  Your role within that activity  Will outline that there are 3 areas of fitness which are required for effective performance physical, skill-related and mental aspects of fitness  And briefly describe your role in the activity (your key responsibilities)

For example  In football there are a range of fitness requirements: physical, skill-related and mental which are required for an effective performance. In my role as a central midfield player I have several responsibilities. Some of the key ones are to cover large areas of the pitch in order to link the defence with attack. I must help close down space in defence and get tackles in on the attackers. When we win the ball I must support the attack by getting up the pitch and providing my team-mates with effective passing options.

What Next?  Next you are required to write 3 paragraphs – one for each ‘area’ of fitness (physical, skill, mental)  Each paragraph should include and detail at least 2 aspects of fitness (Physical = CRE + SE) the aspects should be defined (What is CRE?) Why is it important to your specific role?

Physical fitness example  As a central midfield player having a high level of CRE is very important for effective performance. CRE is concerned with the efficiency of the heart and lungs. If I have good CRE then I can ensure a sufficient supply of oxygen reaches the working muscles over the entire 90 minute game. This is particularly important to my role as a central midfield player because I am expected to cover large areas of the pitch. It is my responsibility to track opponents back into defence in addition to having the energy to get up the pitch and support the attack when we win the ball back. If my CRE is better than my opponents then towards the end of the game I will be able to get away from them more easily making me an unmarked option in attack. Another aspect of physical fitness I require to be effective in my role is speed endurance…….

Skill-related fitness paragraph  An aspect of skill-related fitness which is important in my role as central midfielder is agility. Agility is the ability to move the body quickly and precisely. It requires both speed and flexibility. Good agility helps me to quickly change direction and accelerate into a space. This could make me available for a pass from my team-mates and could help create an overload in attack because I have lost my marker. Being agile also helps me dribble past opponents as I can change speed and direction more quickly. In addition reaction time (or co- ordination) is important to my role…….

Mental fitness paragraph  In my role as central midfielder in football it is important that I keep my level of arousal at a moderate level. Arousal refers to how motivated you are during your performance. If my arousal is too low, maybe due to fatigue or my mind being elsewhere, then I may not try hard enough to make the long runs up pitch to support the attack making my team less likely to score important goals. In addition being overly aroused cold result in me being anxious or stressed. This would be bad because I need to be calm and composed on the ball to execute my passing game effectively. In addition managing my emotions (or rehearsal) is important……

 Activity-Position- Role  3 types of fitness  2 Aspects of each type  Describe specific performance situations when theses aspects are important and how they effect your ability to perform.

 I will issue you with a question  You must detail a basic answer in bullet points.  Remember it’s got to be easy to remember.

Range of questions  Q1 Fitness requirements to perform successfully  Q2 Fitness Assessment  Q3 Fitness requirements  Q4 Principles of Training/ Designing your TP/ Developing your TP  Q5 Methods of Training  Q6 Monitoring Your training programme  Q7 Evaluating your TP  Q8 Target Setting  Q9 Periodisation- Phases of Training

Homework for Friday  You will be issued 2 parts to a POB question  I want you to write the question down structure your answer by bullet point then answer it below

Remainder of the period  I will issue questions with a time limit  You should try to complete these questions in the time before they are marked by you or a partner
