Olweus Parent Information Haine Elementary

Welcome! Mandy Toy, Principal Kristen White, Assistant Principal

 Bullying is when someone repeatedly and on purpose does or says mean or hurtful things to another person who has a hard time defending himself or herself. Definition of Bullying

What is the Olweus Bully Prevention Program? District-wide program proven to reduce bullying throughout the school setting. Emphasis on empowering students by providing them appropriate ways to intervene when they witness or experience bullying.  Goals of Olweus: 1.Reduce existing bullying problems at Haine. 2.Prevent the development of new problems at Haine. 3.Achieve positive peer relationship at Haine.

Interventions  All Staff are trained to intervene on the spot when bullying occurs.  Teachers work with students weekly during their morning meeting times to teach strategies for addressing bullying and other difficult situations they encounter.  We gather data through student surveys. These surveys help guide classroom and building lessons to support the specific needs of Haine elementary students.

 In connection with our Olweus Program, Haine Elementary will be implementing a School-Wide Positive Behavior Support Plan (SWPBSP) this school year.  The purpose of a SWPBSP is a systematic approach to establishing consistent behavioral expectations throughout Haine Elementary.  Students will be taught skills needed to be successful in a variety of environments at Haine (cafeteria, classroom, hallways, restroom). School-Wide Positive Behavior Support Plan

 As teachers notice students displaying positive behaviors, students will earn stars and a chance to write their name on the Principal’s 200 Board that will be located in the HES lobby.  Students names will also be pulled periodically to earn rewards out of the Star Treasure Chest. School-Wide Positive Behavior Support Plan

 Consistent message about bullying prevention and making positive choices at school.  Empower students to speak up for themselves and report situations to adults.  Collaboratively brainstorm solutions to problem situations that students share and model appropriate responses. How can parents help?

 Always work with the classroom teacher on any situations involving your child.  Additional Support can be provided through School Counselor, Mr. Stephens as well as building administration.  District Tip line (Sprigeo) to share concerns reported after school hours or on weekends. Link can be found on main district website Who Should I Contact?
