3 Definition of Bullying
Bullying is when someone repeatedly and on purpose does or says mean or hurtful things to another person who has a hard time defending himself or herself.

4 What is the Olweus Bully Prevention Program?
District-wide program proven to reduce bullying throughout the school setting. Emphasis on empowering students by providing them appropriate ways to intervene when they witness or experience bullying. Goals of Olweus: Reduce existing bullying problems at Haine. Prevent the development of new problems at Haine. Achieve positive peer relationship at Haine.

5 Interventions All Staff are trained to intervene on the spot when bullying occurs. Teachers work with students weekly during their morning meeting times to teach strategies for addressing bullying and other difficult situations they encounter. We gather data through student surveys . These surveys help guide classroom and building lessons to support the specific needs of Haine elementary students.

6 School-Wide Positive Behavior Support Plan
In connection with our Olweus Program, Haine Elementary will be implementing a School-Wide Positive Behavior Support Plan this school year. The purpose of this plan is to provide a systematic approach to establishing consistent behavioral expectations throughout Haine Elementary. Students will be taught skills needed to be successful in a variety of environments at Haine (cafeteria, classroom, hallways, restroom).

7 School-Wide Positive Behavior Support Plan
When positive behavior is displayed , students will earn stars and a chance to write their name on the Principal’s 200 Board that is located in the HES lobby. When the Principal’s 200 Board has 10 STAR students in a row, those students will receive a certificate to bring home and share with their families. STAR students’ names will also be pulled periodically to earn rewards out of the Star Treasure Chest.

8 How can parents help? Consistent message about bullying prevention and making positive choices at school. Empower students to speak up for themselves and report situations to adults. Collaboratively brainstorm solutions to problem situations that students share and model appropriate responses.

9 Who Should I Contact? Parents should first contact the classroom teacher who will address the concern. Additionally, support can be provided by the School Counselor, Dr. Rockey as well as Mrs. Toy or Mrs. White There is also a district tip line (Sprigeo) for parents to report concerns after school hours or on weekends. The Sprigeo link can be found on the district website

10 Let’s have a GREAT School Year!
