Typical article

Directions for Dr Gardner CG For the Pecka and Humpal families record the birth records for the direct ancestors and their siblings; for their parents and family members of that generation

Unusual Finds in the Records On a 1820 marriage, it was noted that Bartholomew Humpal was a member of the “glorious regiment of Breux” Barbora Humpal, who was found to be the aunt of Veronika and Marie Humpal, living in America, requested a certificate of eligibility for marriage in April 1869 The cottage name Fiala was recorded rather than the surname

Unusual Finds (cont) Dr Gardner noted that the Humpal family was a landholder and therefore the family could be traced back to medieval times The marriages for two additional Humpal generations were cited without detail nor were their siblings provided.

Cottage Name – a variation of a surname Also note the Reference field is filled by using the text macro

Name-Cottage Tools>Tag Type List>Filter>Name>Add

Add Exhibit to Repository Add Map of Baltimore Cemetery to Cemetery Repository record

Did the Humpal and Pecka families live close enough to each other in Bohemia to possibly know each other?

Humpal surnames are in red and Pecka surnames are in blue

Language Considerations The letters “ch” are treated as a single letter and appear after the letter “h” in sorted lists Several letter have accent marks and are sorted after their unaccented counter parts. Feminine surnames may be written with “ova” ending

Czech characters of interest The letter C is sorted before Č as seen by the parish Červená.

Summary Contrast between Czech research in 1986 and Czech data idle since imported from gedcom file. While making this presentation, I dispelled previously held assumptions. Documented details of my trip to the Czech previously unrecorded On the positive side, Czech archives are now available on-line for my region of interest.

Additional Research Revisit the Austrian Kriegs Archive concerning Bartholomew Pecka’ military service Three Czech surnames have been found which may be associated with an unresolved German line. This is an area to be investigated.

For Continued Research Name Memory Jogger
