A New Nation at WAR!! The Revolutionary War begins as Minutemen in Massachusetts exchange shots at Lexington & Concord with the REDCOATS.

Americans pick sides Patriots-Believed in complete independence from Britain Provided troops for the army. Loyalists or Tories-remained loyal to Britain based on cultural & economic ties. Believed taxation was necessary for protection.

A Declaration of Freedom 1776! “WE hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal.”“Government gets its power from the people” If a government violates these rights; “abolish it and institute a new government .” Thomas Jefferson

Ethan Allen & the Green Mountain Boys Ethan Allen is best known for the capture of Fort Ticonderoga at the outbreak of the Revolutionary War and his leadership of the Green Mountain Boys.

The Battle of Great Bridge on December 9, 1775 MAJOR BATTLES Resulted in the capture of Norfolk by the Americans and the complete destruction of Norfolk on January 1, 1776. The Battle ended the rule of the British Crown in Virginia. Loyalists fled with the British.
