Class of 2014 Cara Westerman, OTR, MOT Room 3.918, 1

 Fieldwork – required clinical experiences that students must complete in order to graduate from MOT program  UTMB – 2 Level I FW and 2 Level II FW  Level I FW - OT 5121 Fieldwork Practicum I in Spring 2013 (Adult PD), OT 6121 Fieldwork Practicum II in Fall 2013 (Pediatrics), avoid going to the same FW site for both your Level I & Level II FW placements  Avoid FW sites that you have worked, have relatives working 2

 OT 5121 dates: 3/25 – 29/2013, following Spring break (3/18 – 3/22/13)  OT 6121 dates: tentatively 10/21 – 25/2013  5 days, 40 hrs, follow your supervisor’s work schedule  *We will try our best to locate fieldwork sites in geographic areas close to your home or wherever you can get free room and board for one week 3

 Pre-fieldwork to-do-list – *Background check, Immunization (up-to-date TB test), CPR (including infant/child), *Drug Screening  UTMB Dept of OT will provide – professional liability insurance  You are responsible for – Updated or Advanced background check, immunization, CPR, drug screening, personal health insurance, etc. 4

 Fieldwork site database – Some fieldwork sites only accept students in their 2 nd rotation  Choose at least 3 sites and prioritize them  When more than 1 person choose the same site with only 1 opening, decision will be based on – students’ professional behaviors, faculty/advisor’s input, facility interview, drawings if necessary. 5

 2 Level II fieldwork rotations, 12 weeks per rotation  Proposed dates –  1 st Rotation : Jan 6 – Mar 28, 2014  2 nd Rotation: Apr 7 – June 27, 2014  Level II fieldwork requirements – one rotation must be in adult physical disability, and the other rotation can be either in adult PD, pediatrics or mental health 6

 When to make request for your Level II fieldwork placements  Out of state/town requests  The process of Level II fieldwork placements  Must send choices of same type of facilities for each rotation, don’t mix them – i.e. 3 choices must be all in adult PD or all in pediatrics, don’t mix them.  You may change your Level II fieldwork requests after your 1 st Level I fieldwork experience 7
