Now, answer the following questions.

Do people often talk without words? Yes. Besides words, people often do much of their talking with body language.

Do Arabians use the same gesture to say “Goodbye” as most Europeans do? No. Saudi Arabians say “Come here” with a gesture that most Europeans use to say “Goodbye.”

Does sticking out one’s tongue at others always mean something bad? Not exactly. For example, when the Maoris of New Zealand stick out their tongue at someone, it is a sign of respect.

Reading

People are talkative animals. We do a lot of talking—asking, answering, telling and saying, but we also do much of our talking without words. do + the/ 表示「量」的形容詞 + V-ing 做~工作  My sister does a lot of cooking at home.  I do some painting on weekends.  John will do the driving tomorrow. do A without B 在不需要 B 的情況下完成 A I can do the job without your help.

We often use a kind of “Body language” to show what we think or feel. what: the things that She tries to show what/the things that she wants.

This body language is the language of gestures. We point a finger, raise an eyebrow, wave an arm or move another part of the body to show what we want to say.  You may do what you please.  There is some truth in what Bill says.

In other words, we “talk” with these gestures. And we make hundreds of these gestures in a day. in other words It was a great party last night. In other words, we all had a good time. 」  I write with a pen.  We cook with a stove. make gestures make a gesture of friendship/goodwill/ support Next

hundreds of 「好幾百」 thousands of 「好幾千」 millions of 「好幾百萬」 tens of thousands of 「成千上萬」 數詞一般不加 s ,例: two hundred people 但若其後加上 of 則要加 s ,例: thousands of people In other words, we “talk” with these gestures. And we make hundreds of these gestures in a day.

People all over the world use gestures. In every country, there are gestures that say “Hello” and “Goodbye.”

However, this does not mean that everyone in the world uses exactly the same body language. We may have some of the same gestures, but different countries have different customs and different gestures. however 及 but 都用來表示語氣的轉折,但 however 為副詞,而 but 為連接詞,注意標點 符號使用的不同 。 John is rich; however, Tom is poor. →John is rich. However, Tom is poor. John is rich, but Tom is poor. Next

In every country, there are gestures that say “Hello” and “Goodbye.” However, this does not mean that everyone in the world uses exactly the same body language. We may have some of the same gestures, but different countries have different customs and different gestures. Next

Different countries have different customs and different gestures. →Customs and gestures are different from country to country. →Customs and gestures differ from country to country. However, this does not mean that everyone in the world uses exactly the same body language. We may have some of the same gestures, but different countries have different customs and different gestures.

Sometimes the same gesture can mean different things in different countries. For example, Saudi Arabians and some other speakers of Arabic say “Come here” with a gesture that most Europeans use to say “Goodbye.” John is taller than any other student in my class. say...with... She said “Hello” to me witha smile. that

They hold up a hand, palm away from the face, and move the fingers up and down. palm away from the face: with the palm away from the face 表示附帶的動作 Back
