 In Ancient Egypt, mining was a very important task. Various materials with many uses were mined and quarried all around Egypt.

 The pharaoh decided which spots were to be worked.  The criminals and prisoners were sent to do the hard labor  Wood was scarce, so mud-brick was used for houses.  Gold was extremely common

 One of the most important mines was in Aswan, which had 7 important resources in one mine.  One of the most important resources was stone, which was mainly used religiously.
