Plants Pasque flower Genus: Anemone Species: patens The pasque flower can have 5-8 petals and can be colors in the range of lavender to white. This flower also produces a plum and is considered the prettiest of the tundra flowers. bearberry Genus: Arctostaphylos Species: uva-ursi The bearberry is a low growing evergreen its stem has thick bark and fine hairs. Its flowers have five petals and can be pale pink or white. Its friut is a tiny red berry that bears love to eat.

Food web This is the food web of the tundra

Animals Snowy Owl Genus: Nyctea Species: scandiaca The snowy owl is considered the largest and most attractive of owls. They have yellow eyes and large ears hidden under their mass of white feathers. Snowy owls mate every breeding season. Artic Fox Genus: Lagopus Species: alopex The artic fox finds areas that are not frozen and makes it burrow there. It is a scavenger and sometimes follows a polar bear or other predator so it can eat the remains of its kill. The fox is about the size of a housecat and has short legs with a big bushy tail. Their mating season is from may to February and mother give birth to 6-19 pups.

Animals Polar Bear Genus: Ursus Species: maritimus The polar bear is the largest carnivore on land. They have two layers of fur which keeps them warm. Bears mate in march and have their cubs 7-8 months later the dig burrows where they give birth. Grizzly bear Genus: Ursus Species: arctos horribilis The grizzly bear is aggressive and has no problem surviving in the tundra. It eats mostly plant and small mammals as well as driving other predators away from meat. Mothers give birth to 2-4 cubs in January but the bear cubs are usually twins.

Animals Ermine Genus: Mustela Species: erminea Ermines make their dens in the crevice of a rock or the roots of a tree. The ermine is a carnivore and has 34 sharp teeth. They breed each year having cubs.

Climate The climate range of tundra is 22 to 6 C degrees (-10 °F to 41 °F). Average annual range of precipitation is 8 inches (20 centimeters)

The natural resources in tundra are oil, nickel, and coal. There is also a ton of carbon dioxide, tundra has the most in the world.

Landforms The tundra is very ice, snowy and cold. There are no trees and there are a lot of mountains.

Vocab Word Our vocabulary word is permafrost. Permafrost is the layer of soil that stays frozen all the time. It affects the tundra because it prevents the little rain that falls from absorbing into the ground so water is plentiful
