Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information Structural Workbench This workbench is used to apply loads and boundary conditions for structural analysis. Applications | Analysis | Structural SimLab Structural workbench has the following tools to define loads and boundary conditions Loads- Pressure, Force, Thermal Load, Motion, Body Force. Constraints- Fixed, Enforced, Velocity. Coordinate Mass Load Case

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information Coordinate This tool is used to create coordinate system. Rectangle, Cylindrical and Spherical coordinate systems can be created. The coordinate system can be rotated or translated to some other location.

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information Coordinate - C, X, Y point method A center point and points along X and Y directions have to be selected.

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information A center point and points along X and Z directions have to be selected. Coordinate - C, X, Z point method

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information Coordinate – C, Z, XZ plane method A center point and points along X and Z directions have to be selected.

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information Coordinate – Cylindrical Face method Select a cylindrical face to create a coordinate system. Option to specify R direction is available.

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information Coordinate – Circular Edge method Select a circular edge to create a coordinate system. Option to define R direction is available.

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information Loads - Pressure Pressure is supported for face entity. Both Constant and Varying Pressure can be defined.

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information Force and moment can be defined using this tool. Both distributed and concentrated force are supported. Torque can be defined as Moment based on a local coordinate system Force can also be defined based on a local coordinate system Entities supported - node, vertex, edge and face. Loads - Force

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information This tool is used to specify the thermal loads for structural analysis. Either user can input the load or can import the file that contains the thermal load details Uniform – allows to input the thermal load for a body. Map to file – File is specified to give the load. (x, y, z, temperature format or NodeID, temperature format.) Attach to file – A thermal results file from a solver is included in the structural solver deck. (solver specific) Initial temperature can be specified. Loads – Thermal Load

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information Thermal Load The nodal temperature values can be given in tabular form also.

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information This tool is used to apply gravity loads(acceleration), rotational velocity and rotational acceleration. Loads – Body Force

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information Loads – Motion This tool is used to apply velocity loads.

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information This tool is used to apply displacement and rotational constraints. Entities supported – Face, Edge, Vertex and Node. Constraints - Fixed

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information This tool is used to apply Enforced displacement and rotational constraints. Entities supported – Face, Edge, Vertex and Node. Constraints - Enforced

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information This tool is used to constrain the Linear and Angular velocities in the required direction. Constraints - Velocity

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information Mass This tool is used to define mass element. Mass, Centroid and Moment of Inertia of meshed models can be calculated. Option to export these calculated data is available. Mass Element can be created directly at the centroid of the selected body.

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information This tool is used to group Loads, constraints and connections into different sub cases (for Nastran) or Steps (for Abaqus) Any loads or constraints not added to any load case are considered to be common for all the cases and added above the sub cases or step cards in the respective solver deck files. Load Case

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information Exporting Load Cases The load cases are selected when exporting the solver input file.
