DID YOU KNOW?

Every single day the Spartanburg Humane Society cares for nearly 400 animals.

All, are either stray animals picked up by the City of Spartanburg’s Animal Control, or turned in to us by their owners.

The average length of stay for an animal at SHS, before finding their forever home, is 59 days!

To date, the longest stay for an animal with us, before finding the perfect home has been 235 days!

Nearly 7,000 animals called the Spartanburg Humane Society home in 2013.

It costs approximately $125 per week to care for each animal.

The SHS adoption team found forever homes for 3,411 animals in 2013 – an increase of nearly 30% over 2012!

The SHS transport team placed 700 animals out of state in 2013 – as far away as 829 miles!

Our education team spoke to over 8,000 students in our schools, local clubs and our scout troops.

Our 250 volunteers logged over 12,500 hours in 2013.

Our veterinary clinic spayed/neutered 5,294 animals in 2013.

And we treated 2,750 local pets in our low-income clinic.

In 2014 we raised our low- income requirements from poverty level to HUD standards – opening our door to thousands more animals.

In April 2014, the Spartanburg Humane Society celebrated 50 years as THE animal care agency for Spartanburg County.
