Special Kindergarten No. 208 in Warsaw

We are a public institution carried by Capital City of Warsaw destinated for children with mental retardation. Our kindergarten is located in the city centre, near the Metro Ratusz station.

Our building Our building is adapted to the kids on wheelchairs. We have a ramp and a lift which stops over on every level of the building.

We are a special kindergarten destinated just for children with severe and moderate mental retardation at the age of 3-8 We offer a service for children with varying developmental disturbances: orthopedic impairments, spastic four limb paralysis, autism, hearing and visually impairments After graduation our alumni can continue education in: “school of life” (school for children with profound mental retardation), special school or in integrated classes Our pupils

Our kindergarten is open from Monday to Friday from 7.00 a.m. until 5.00 p.m We run 10 litlle groups ( inter alia: for children with multiple disabilities, Peto’s group for children with celebral palsy, groups for autistic children) In every class there work special educators - oligophrenopedagogues supported by auxiliary staff and janitors We offer 4 meals for our children: breakfast, soup, dinner and afternoon snack We have meals adapted to our children’s needs: food is mixed and prepared for kids with special diet needs How we work

We offer many specialistic forms of therapy conducted by qualified professionals : - Logopedic treatment (including AAC), - Physical therapy, corrective and therapeutic gymnastic, - SI (sensory integration), - Visual therapy, - Hearing therapy, - Pedagogical therapy, - Psychologist therapy. We have also equipment for polysensory stimulation with interactive board and special class for culinary experiences “Kuchcikowo”. Therapy

● We publish a monthly news-sheet „Dzielniaczek”.  We organize trainings for parents:  how to take care for kids with special needs,  about Augmentative and Alternative Communication(AAC),  about Sensory Integration (SI). ● We organize open lessons (parents can join some activities).  We do exhibitions of arts our pupils, and invite all families to take part in our celebrations.  We are running our kindergarten website. Our establishment is the oldest special kindergarten for mentally impaired children in Poland. It was founded by courtesy of the Ministry of Education on 1 September Till 2000 the sitting of our kindergarten was changed several times because of insufficient living conditions. 1 July 2000 is the vitally important date for us. The kindergarten got its own independent building that was possible to adapt to the needs of handicapped children. Our history in a nutshell
