What is a parable? They are stories that help communicate a truth about the relationship between God and the world we live in.

Why did Jesus use parables?  They were familiar to the people he was speaking to  They communicated an important truth quickly and effectively  They made complex things easier to understand  They allowed him to breakthrough preconceived ideas and prejudices

The Parable of the Hidden Treasure The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. -Matt 13:44

What is Jesus comparing the Kingdom of Heaven to?

What did the man do when he found the treasure? Why is this important? What did the man do next?

Why did the man sell everything he had to buy the field? How do you think people reacted to this?

What would of happened if he just left the treasure and didn't buy the field?

Small Groups What does this parable tell us about God and our relationship with him? In your school, with your friends, in your home... What does this look like? Is there any action I need to take in response to this?
