What is a Parable? A short story that teaches a lesson.

Why did Jesus use Parables? Two Reasons to reveal (show) the truth to those who wanted to know it to conceal (hide) the truth from those who were no interested

All of us who have believed in Jesus and follow Him, are already part of the Kingdom of Heaven! Mustard Seed & Leaven As disciples, followers of Jesus we are commanded by Jesus to tell other people about Him. The Kingdom of Heaven began small, but grew much larger, and will continue to grow!

What was happening? (context, location & people ) These two parables were told to the disciples in the house after Jesus explained the Parable of the Weeds.

44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. 45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, 46 who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

Simile – a comparison that uses the words “like or “as.” “The Kingdom of Heaven is like…” How do both of these parables begin?

What do we know about fields? What do we know about treasure? What did the man do when he found the treasure?

What do we know about pearls? What did the man do when he found the pearl?

What does this tell us about the Kingdom? It is the greatest treasure! It is hidden from most people. It is known only to it’s joyful people!

What does this tell us about the Kingdom? It is so valuable that people who have it revealed to them are willing to give up all they have to possess it!

What does this mean for Jesus’ followers today? As disciples, followers of Jesus we will face trials and temptations. When we believe in Jesus we will begin to experience the wonder of the Kingdom.

We should joyfully make the Kingdom of God our number one priority. But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you. Matthew 6:33 The Kingdom of God is all we need!

Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations. Psalm 145:13
