Heat Cramps  Painful, Severe Cramps  Usually Calves and Abdomen  Due to excessive water/electrolyte loss

 Well conditioned athletes who over-exhert / rehydrate with water only  Body Temp - normal / skin - moist & cool / Dizzy / Pulse & Respirations are normal

Heat Cramp First Aid  Stretching  Rest  Fluid and Electrolyte Replacement

Heat Syncope  Very Common with exercise in Heat  Weak / Tired / Dizzy / Weak and Rapid Pulse / Decreased BP  Normal/slightly elevated body T  Cool / Sweaty / Red Skin

Heat Syncope First Aid  Immediate Rest  Remove from practice / heat  Cool body with cool towels  Rehydrate with water / electrolytes

HEAT EXHAUSTION

 Cool Pale Clammy Skin  Body Temp Normal  Up To 103  Skin may be ASHEN on darker skinned athletes  PROFUSE SWEATING

 Dizzy / Nausea or Vomiting  Decreased urine output  Headache  Low B.P.  Weak, Rapid Pulse  Pupils Dilated

HEAT EXHAUSTION FIRST AID

 COOL ENTIRE BODY  FLUID REPLACEMENT WITH COOL LIQUIDS / ELECTROLYTES  REMOVE FROM PRACTICE

 HOSPITAL- VOMITING/UNCONSCIOUS  NO PLAY UNTIL STRENGTH NORMAL

HEAT STROKE

 A MEDICAL EMERGENCY!  Red Hot Dry Skin  Body Temp +103  Strong Rapid Pulse

 Seizures  Rapid Shallow Respirations  Unconscious or Altered Consciousness  Constricted pupils  High BP

WARNING! n MAY OCCUR W/O ANY PRECEDING CONDITIONS!

HEAT STROKE FIRST AID

 COOL BODY IMMEDIATELY!  REMOVE CLOTHING  ICE, WATER, FAN, SHADE  ACTIVATE EMS!  DEATH IMMENANT ABOVE 106 DEGREES!  MONITOR VITAL SIGNS
