An Artists World of Colors

A World of Colors Colors are very important in the life of any artist. More importantly it is essential that the artist know and understand how to create a variety of colors. Let me introduce the color wheel. It is the most basic tool in understanding how colors are created.

Primary Color Wheel Yellow, blue and red make up the primary color wheel. These three colors can be mixed in a variety of combinations to produce the secondary color wheel. Can you guess what color yellow and blue make?

Secondary Color Wheel Notice that the color between yellow and blue is the color green. The two primary colors yellow and blue were combined to create the secondary color green. The primary colors along with green, violet, and orange make up the secondary color wheel. Can you guess what color yellow and green make?

Tertiary Color Wheel Notice that the color between yellow and green is the color yellow- green. Yellow a primary color and green a secondary color were combined to create the tertiary color yellow-green. A combination of primary and secondary colors produce the tertiary color wheel.

Beyond the Basics The most basic colors can be combined to create a wide spectrum of colors.
