 Haiku is a form of traditional Japanese Poetry.  Haiku poems consist of three lines.  The syllable pattern of a Haiku poem is 5,7,5. The first and last lines of a Haiku have 5 syllables and the middle line has 7 syllables.

 A syllable is part of word pronounced as a unit.  It is usually made up of a vowel alone or a vowel and one or more consonants.  The word “syllable” has three syllables – syl-la-ble.
