Types of Narrators First person: may tell own story or someone else’s. But beware! The first-person narrator never knows the full story. Omniscient: narrator knows everything, and moves from one character’s mind to another. Objective: the point of view remains entirely outside the character’s mind. Readers have to interpret characters’ thoughts or attitudes on their own.

Unreliable Narrators Definition: a first-person narrator whose perspective is self-serving, mistaken, confused, unstable, or even insane. Cask of Amontillado: narrator is manipulative and deceives even himself. Rose for Emily: narrator is confused, and has been indoctrinated by his own society’s assumptions.

Limited Omniscient Definition: a third-person narration that focuses only on a single character’s perspective. You can see inside the mind of that character, but no other character. Example: Young Goodman Brown
