2. + Point of View vs. Perspective Point of view is the view point of the story – what part of which characters you get see Perspective is why the characters says or does what they say – you are putting someone else’s glasses on and seeing what they see based on their background

3. + Determining Point of View Look for pronouns – DO NOT LOOK AT DIALOUGE!!!!!!!! Ask yourself: “Who is telling the story?” “What is the narrator’s relationship to the characters?”

The advantage of this point of view is that you get to hear the thoughts of the narrator and see the world depicted in the story through his or her eyes – the narrator’s perspective The disadvantage is that you can’t see anyone else’s thoughts or feelings

5. + Second Person Second-person point of view, in which the author uses you and your, is rare Authors rarely speak directly to the reader. Most times, second-person point of view draws the reader into the story, almost making the reader a participant in the action. Most often used when giving directions or sharing steps in a process. Advantage is that you make the reader a part of the story Disadvantage is that it is hard to maintain this POV without making it awkward for your reader
