Taxonomy Maintenance EHR Laboratory Package for Small Sites without a Laboratory Professional Resource Patient Management System

Session Objectives Populate taxonomies. Describe the effect of taxonomies on iCare, Diabetes Management System and GPRA reporting.

Clinical Reporting Packages use Lab Taxonomies for Reporting –Diabetes Management System (DM) –Women’s Health (WH) –Asthma Package – iCare –Clinical Reporting System Laboratory plays a large role in the Clinical Reporting System which is the reporting tool used by the IHS Office of Planning and Evaluation to collect and report clinical performance results annually to HHS and to Congress, which ultimately affects funding!

Taxonomy maintenance Editing taxonomies is very important – A taxonomy in the laboratory package refers to the name or group of names given to a specific laboratory test at the facility. Different laboratories may have different nomenclature for the same test. Ex: Hgb A1c vs. Hemoglobin A1C vs A1C Do not add panels to taxonomies that contain single tests which will be evaluated based on the values of those tests Ex: Hgb A1c test results used to evaluate glycemic control. If the taxonomies are not entered and maintained Clinical reporting numbers may be highly inaccurate. Some clinical indicators look for CPT, and or ICD9 codes. It is important to keep the CPT code file up to date as well.

Taxonomy maintenance (cont.) Maintenance occurs through the CRS package. CRS IHS Clinical Reporting System (CRS) Main Menu... - Select: CI11 CRS Select: TS Taxonomy Setup... -Select: CRTS Taxonomy Setup-All CRS Reports This option allows editing of all RPMS search taxonomies. Remember to include retired tests in the taxonomy.

Taxonomy maintenance (cont.) DM AUDIT taxonomies are from Diabetes Management System (DM) DM BGP are CRS taxonomies BAT are Asthma taxonomies Use the commands at the bottom of the box to Select a taxonomy to edit, display, or quit

Taxonomy maintenance (cont.) Use the commands at the bottom of the box to add or remove a taxonomy, or to quit Once a taxonomy has been selected, it will display all the tests that have been entered.
